SMA module kit for the AC surge arresters type I and II. AC surge protection is necessary to protect electrical equipment against voltage surges. Also called overvoltage and lightning is a well-known example of this. However, overvoltage protection creates potential equalisation which leads to neutralisation of the voltage differences. As a result, all connected solar panels and inverters remain undamaged.

Type I overvoltage protection is designed to provide protection against direct lightning strikes. Type II has a lower value than Type I and only protects against indirect lightning strikes.
